The British Fashion Awards 2011...Red Carpet Style!

 The 2011 British Fashion Awards were held last night at The Savoy Hotel and Theatre, London. Hosted by the stylish television presenters, George Lamb and Lauren Laverne. The ceremony saw the best of the British and international fashion industries joine forces with a glamorous line-up of guests, including British Fashion Council Ambassador Samantha Cameron, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson, Colin Firth, Marc Jacobs and Alexa Chung.

 The British Fashion Awards esteemed 'Designer of the Year 2011' award went to Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Burton's creative direction has allowed McQueen's legacy to live on, whilst still giving her own twist of creative genuis to a collection that has outshone its rivals on and off the catwalk.

Global fashion icon, Alexa Chung (pictured above), won the award for 'Best British Style' for the second year running, voted entirely by the British public.

Stylish sequins and elegant embellishment, in pale nude skin colours and rich silver and bronze metallics, were most definitely the trend of the night amongst the stylish stars and fashionistas of the industry. Cannes Film Festival Round Up

Lilly Lovelett, the cool girl-about-town blogger has launched her official website covering behind the scenes goss from the London music scene and beyond.

We invited her to give us an update on the closing weekend of Cannes...

"There's nothing more exciting than the chance to drop everything: desk, emails, deadlines & umbrellas (thank you England!) and hot step it to the south of France for the movie industry's biggest event of the year: Cannes Film Festival! This was made even more exciting by the fact that my original weekend plans were: work from home, sort out washing and catch up on Made in Chelsea!"

"On our first evening in sunny Cannes we headed to The After Party represented by L'Oreal Paris - a party hosted to benefit amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research). The party was held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, and was a black tie affair as suspected. Unfortunately we were so rushed to get there after a 10 hour journey that we didn't have time to change! Still, despite our lack of designer clobber we were ushered straight through. It would seem that the keep-your-head-down-walk-with-purpose-and-pretend-you're-someone-famous trick really works! Inside we spotted Kanye West, Michael Douglas and Eva Herzigova as well as Carine Roifield from Paris Vogue."

 
"...Having started our Cannes adventure with a party that was unbeatable by my standards (rest assured, they are high!), we escaped the hustle and bustle of the Cannes high life and headed to the beach in Theole: blue sky, clear sea and sun: Paradise!"

 
"The day quickly turned into night and, never being one to turn down an invitation to a party, it was off to exclusive Cannes hang-out 3.14 - hotel by day, party place by night - and not for the faint-hearted! It's non-stop during the film festival and plays music right through to the early hours."

"We headed into town on day 3 and browsed the Promenade de la Croisette: if you like to people watch, this is the place to do it! The streets are lined with paparazzi snapping blacked-out cars as they leave the big hotels. We were told about a secret party in the Carlton Hotel which had super tight security and a restricted guestlist - we tested our chances and somehow managed to blag our way in! We partied with the movie world once more. No major celeb-spots this time, although one director did offer me the starring role in his next big movie! Shame I can't remember his name...and I lost his business card...ahh well, maybe next year!"

 
"...On our final day in Cannes the parties were beginning to take their toll, so we headed down to the exclusive Palm Beach Casino for a relaxing spot of lunch - only by 4 o'clock the bear bar suddenly turned super-club! The music was turned up by the DJ and the space usually home to a swimming pool is transformed into a dance floor! What's a girl to do, but party in the sunset - not too bad for a spot of lunch!"

Red Carpet Review

The Hollywood A-list was out in force at last night’s Oscar ceremony to celebrate this year’s cinema masterpieces.

It was a great night for the Brits, with the movie-of-the-moment, The King’s Speech, receiving an impressive four awards!

As well as the movie awards there were plenty of style awards earned, with look-at-me red having a clear fashion moment, chosen by stars including Jennifer Hudson, Sandra Bullock and host for the evening, Anne Hathaway.

Our pick of the night was Gwyneth Paltrow, who chose to buck the trend for all things red and opted for a luxe metallic column dress.

Ballet Fever

Last week saw the UK release of the movie-of-the-moment, Black Swan.  Combining the elegant beauty of ballet with the suspense of a dark thriller, the buzz around the film is not just down to the Oscar nods, it also has the fashion world going wild for all things ballet. 

While we wish we could take inspiration from the film’s star, Natalie Portman, and perfect the art of ballet, we have a feeling our ‘good toes, naughty toes’ routine just won’t cut it.  So instead, we’ve decided to stick to what we’re good at and shop our way into the world of dance with a wardrobe full of ballet inspired pieces.

Burlesque UK Premiere

Glamour and glitter descended upon London last night for the UK Premiere of the hotly-anticipated film, Burlesque.

The Miss Selfridge girls were lucky enough to have a couple of the hottest tickets in town, so it was on with our favourite Miss Selfridge dresses and off to Leicester Square to waltz down the pink carpet and rub shoulders with the film’s stars, Cher and Christina Aguilera!

Blixz Nails

Here in the office, the build up to 'Sex and the City 2' was almost too much to bear.  Those teasing shots of Carrie and Aidan, the sneak peeks of some classic SATC killer outfits . . . we'd been counting down the days for months!

But when we finally settled down to watch the film, with popcorn in hand, it wasn't the love triangle that caught our attention.  Instead, we left the cinema desperate to get ourselves some seriously spangly nails. 

Samantha's statement nails caused us some serious sparkle envy and ever since, we've been on the hunt for the shiniest nail varnish we can find.  And it's not just SATC star Kim Cattrall that's been spotted with statement nails.  Actresses Kate Beckinsale and Zoe Saldana are just a few of Hollywood's hottest leading ladies that have been rocking the trend.

Luckily, all our polish prayers were answered when the new Blixz nail foils arrived in store.  The patterned and plain metallic foils are easy to apply and give that super shine that no amount of top coat can achieve!

Singing starlet Stacey Solomon was one of the lucky few to attend last week's UK premiere of Sex and the City 2 in London's Leicester Square.

Alice in Wonderland

With last night's hotly anticipated Royal premiere of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, we're all suffering from Alice fever at Miss Selfridge HQ.

The stars of the movie were not the only stylish ones to tread the red carpet.  Some of the Miss Selfridge team were invited along, and haven't stopped raving about the film all morning!
