Need some inspiration in the form of Jubilee baking? Look no further!

We had our own Jubilee celebrations here at the Miss Selfridge offices. Yes, in British style, we spent the afternoon decorating our outside courtyard for the occasion, and yes, we had to make a mad dash indoors when it started to rain! 

We had a bake off with prizes for taste, look and originality (won by the cake popsicles) and a prize for the best crown.

The design team put everyone else to shame with their creativity!

Style Spotting at London Fashion Week

During Fashion Week we took time out to go down to the shows to people watch and see what the fashion pack were wearing. Here are a few of our favourite street style snaps...

 

 

 

 

Neon was a huge trend on the street at Fashion Week, it came in the form of zingy yellow jackets right through to more subtle details on accessories.

 

 

 

 

Printed trousers were also a Fashion Week favourite.

The British Fashion Awards 2011...Red Carpet Style!

 The 2011 British Fashion Awards were held last night at The Savoy Hotel and Theatre, London. Hosted by the stylish television presenters, George Lamb and Lauren Laverne. The ceremony saw the best of the British and international fashion industries joine forces with a glamorous line-up of guests, including British Fashion Council Ambassador Samantha Cameron, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson, Colin Firth, Marc Jacobs and Alexa Chung.

 The British Fashion Awards esteemed 'Designer of the Year 2011' award went to Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Burton's creative direction has allowed McQueen's legacy to live on, whilst still giving her own twist of creative genuis to a collection that has outshone its rivals on and off the catwalk.

Global fashion icon, Alexa Chung (pictured above), won the award for 'Best British Style' for the second year running, voted entirely by the British public.

Stylish sequins and elegant embellishment, in pale nude skin colours and rich silver and bronze metallics, were most definitely the trend of the night amongst the stylish stars and fashionistas of the industry. Ballet Fever

Last week saw the UK release of the movie-of-the-moment, Black Swan.  Combining the elegant beauty of ballet with the suspense of a dark thriller, the buzz around the film is not just down to the Oscar nods, it also has the fashion world going wild for all things ballet. 

While we wish we could take inspiration from the film’s star, Natalie Portman, and perfect the art of ballet, we have a feeling our ‘good toes, naughty toes’ routine just won’t cut it.  So instead, we’ve decided to stick to what we’re good at and shop our way into the world of dance with a wardrobe full of ballet inspired pieces.

Gorgeous Gowns at the Globes

It was a great night for us Brits at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles.  Not only did Ricky Gervais host the event, Colin Firth also picked up the award for Best Actor.

But the style awards all went to the cast of hit American show, Glee.

Dress Me Daisy - A/W 10 Review

DressMeDaisy.com has been one of our favourite fashion sites for a while now, so we asked co-founder Lisa Jordon to review our new A/W 10 collection and write a guest blog.  Here's what she thought . . .

"When we first got a glimpse of the GORGEOUS new collections from Miss S we had to take a minute, try and keep our breathing regular and not rush out immediately to camp outside until they appear in store.  Please be prepared for feelings of insane 'must. have. that. dress/coat/boots*. or. life. will. not. be. complete' if you carry on reading.  You have been warned."

GOTHIC GLAM        

Turning to the dark side has never been so appealing! You can keep your hot vampire/werewolf boys when our wardrobes look this good. Full of gorgeous sculpted silhouettes, broodingly beautiful chiffon and intricate lace detailing. The Gothic Glam collection epitomises femininity with a dark and oh so sexy edge. Add pale and interesting skin, nude lips and nails for a look straight off the catwalk or a slick of deep purple lippie to vamp it and take things to a whole ‘nother level (not one involving Dane Bowers).

 

  

  

  

 

 

HIPPY LUXE

Daisy’s personal favourite and source of an unnerving sense of MUST HAVE IT ALL NOW. Hippy Luxe is taking summer boho firmly by the hand and marching it head first in to winter. Combining the maxis and gilets we expect from our boho with more than a twist of 1970’s Carnaby Street with paisley print smocks and faux fur coats. Quite simply, we are in love. Think dark smoky eyes, bed hair and as many accessories as you can pile on. A sentence we never thought we’d be saying.....faux fur lined clogs? Absolute gen-i-us!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SIMPLICITY

A firm favourite amongst the fashion elite you really can't go wrong with a slice of monochrome, especially when you add girly dusky pinks to the mix (monodusk? No just sounds wrong) Channelling 1920’s Parisian chic with more than a nod towards Coco Chanel it’s a look that is so delicately feminine and gorgeously vintage that it’s hitting every fashion nail squarely on the head! If you’re not careful you’ll find yourself running along train platforms waving a hanky and eating spam (that’s what they did in the 20’s yes?)

 

 

 

 

 

 

WINTER PASTELS

Dramatic shapes in muted tones make for one helluva romantic collection. By day beautifully detailed knits, wide leg tweeds, khaki cigarette pants and retro mary-jane’s scream of a sophisticated bye gone era. Then at night out come gorgeous nude shifts with intricate beaded edging and an empire line fishtail maxi which is THE MOST AMARZIN’ RED CARPET DRESS.like.ever. Health Warning: wearing it you’ll have paps ummmm papping you, even if you’re only popping out to get some milk; (it’s that kind of dress. Put it on once and you’ll never want to take it off!) There's no place like Miss Selfridge

Monday mornings at Miss Selfridge Head Office are always a flurry of activity.  There are no end of reports to run and samples to sort through, but the most important task by far is discussing the weekend's episode of 'Over the Rainbow'!

We just can't get enough of our weekly dose of Oz.  So you can imagine our excitement this week after Saturday's battle for the final five saw not just one, but three contestants dressed in some seriously magical Miss Selfridge dresses!

Lauren Samuels looked flirty and feminine, styling our Blair-inspired Gossip Girl dress with black ribbon, while Steph Fearon dazzled in our nude embellished flapper style dress.  Though Jessica Robinson looked every inch the star in our floral prom dress on Saturday, her fantastic Mary Poppins performance couldn't quite carry her through and she left the competition on Sunday's show.

Apparently, the yellow brick road heads straight to Miss Selfridge!
